Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 02. Mizuno Ami - Sailor Mercury

MOON PRIDE [x]

We all have unshakable wills
We will fight on our own
Without leaving our destiny to a prince

We are not helpless girls
Who need men’s protection

I wanna be a doctor like my mom, I have to study harder.

You are so fluffy.

M E R C U R Y P O W E R M A K E U P!

girlsbydaylight:

One of the things that’s always been wonderful about Sailor Moon isn’t just that it has a variety of female characters with loads of different relationships between them (though, that is indeed wonderful to have!) but that also they’re inspired by other women.

This is one of the smaller ways, as we only briefly see Ami’s mother much later in the series, but it’s still important to Ami’s characterization, that she wants to be a doctor like her mother.  Her mother inspires her and Ami works so damn hard to live up to that role and she’ll be able to do it, she’ll be able to balance her dream and her future, both of which are inspired by and affected by other women.

But also is Usagi’s reaction, where she hears that Ami is studying to be a doctor, and her immediate response isn’t to say that’s going to be really hard for a girl or to express distaste at the idea because it involves a lot of studying.  Instead, it’s a small moment, but it says loads about how Usagi sees Ami’s dream to become a doctor like her mother—THAT’S SO COOL.  It’s something to admire, that another girl was inspired by her mother to be a doctor.

It’s such a small moment, such a throwaway moment, but it still means a lot to me, because Ami’s entire life is inspired by her mother, because she WANTS to live up to her mother’s image.  MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS, GODDAMN, I AM HERE FOR THAT.

"It’s all right. I like your hands."
